Around the World: Summer Festival 2023

The Around The World Summer Festival was the finale to the preceeding Art & Diversity fortnight at Willow Bank Primary School. Held on Friday, 30 June 2023, the festival celebrated all the wonderful cultures that make up the community. The event was a resounding success raising a whopping £1,785!

Children wore their cultural outfits to school and the moment the school day ended, pupils and families flocked to the festival at the school's main playground and enjoyed a range of fun festival games and activities such as guess the jellybeans, hook a duck, and shooting hoops. Unsurprisingly, the bouncy castle and ice-cream van were super popular with the crowd. As were the face painting and henna art.

At centre stage, pupils showcased their talent with fantastic musical and dance performances, many practising for weeks for their big moment! Steel drummers played tunes to the delight of onlookers, and the beats even encouraged some to dance along.

The hot dogs and burgers kept hungry bellies at bay and the World Kitchen gave festival goers a taste of food from around the world! The homemade cupcakes were so impressive, they sold out in no time!

The Hundred Club set up the Craft Corner where children were able to get creative, mapping out Abbey Wood. Local groups also came along to meet the community and share the great work they are doing to support the area.

It was a truly amazing day and we want to thank everyone that came along to support the event.

We must also extend special thanks to all our sponsors who contributed generously to this event.
